BRIGHTON Brighton (Salt Lake) is a recreational community at the end of U-152 in upper Big Cottonwood Canyon. The town was originally named Silver Lake after the small lake nearby. There are various claims for the name source. It could have been named after a city in England, or for Thomas W. Brighton or William Stuart Brighton, both of whom built homes in the area. John W.
