FOUNTAIN GREEN Fountain Green (Sanpete) is midway between Moroni and Nephi on U-132. The area was first named Uinta Springs when it was an important campground and freighting stop between the early Sanpete settlements and Salt Lake City. The springs were frequently used by the Indians. The first white people settled there in 1850, then in March 1859, George W. Johnson brought settlers from Santaquin to start a community. He provided the present name because of the lush meadows surrounding the springs. John W. Van Cott |
