SANTA CLARA RIVER

*Santa Clara River (Washington) originates in the Pine Valley Mountains near Pine Valley and drains into the Virgin River south of St. George. The river was named by the early travelers of the Old Spanish Trail that followed the river. For a short time it was known as the Tonaquint River, named for the small tribe of Tonaquint Indians living further downriver, near the mouth.
