The staircase has sets of three, five and seven steps representing the teachings of Masonry: Three principal officers of the lodge, five human senses and seven liberal arts and sciences. These symbolic steps are also found in other rooms of the temple as well as in the number of steps leading to the three main entry doors at the front of the temple. The globes on top of the pilars represent the Terrestrial and Celestial spheres.
